Introducing the Alumni Association Board of Directors
Jennifer Blake Cerecedes '02
After graduating from Evergreen, Jennifer worked as an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer teaching green living classes to low-income families. Currently, she helps place homeless families in housing at Spokane Neighborhood Action Programs (SNAP), a local community action agency. She is also working on her master’s degree in communication and leadership at Gonzaga University.
Sally Blonien '03, emeritus
Sally was an active member of the board for many years, resigning in 2007. In recognition of her many contributions in the areas of fundraising (Alumni Association wine), events management (Greener Oasis Beer & Wine Garden), planning and leadership, she was given emeritus status in 2007.
Andrea Coker-Anderson '87, MPA '07
Andrea has a long history with Evergreen. A proud, second-generation Greener (her father is Keith Coker, ’80), Andrea completed her B.A. at the University of Washington in 1986, and attended Evergreen from 1985-87 for its teacher education program. After teaching for a short time, she returned to the college as a staff member in Registration and Records in 1989. In 1997, she became Evergreen's Registrar, directing the staff and functions of Registration and Records. In 2007, Andrea completed her MPA degree with an interest in organizational development and leadership.
Jennifer Commodore '04
Jennifer is the founder and president of Commander In Chief Productions, an events-management company. Among other events, she plans and coordinates the Martin Luther King Day Parade in Seattle. She is also the founder and president of Wake Up Northwest, a non-profit organization providing educational tools and resources, family counseling and training, drug and alcohol rehabilitation and housing and financial assistance. Jennifer served on the board of the NAACP-King County Branch from 2003-05. She is the alumni board representative to Evergreen’s board of trustees.
Richard Dunn '02 (San Francisco area representative)
Rich works at Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor for global wealth management. He has a background in community and environmental activism. He lists his board-relevant talents as "superb fundraising and organizing skills" and being "in touch with many classmates."
Melody Edgington '09
Melody is a current student focusing on business and finance and co-founder of the student organization Center for Sustainable Entrepreneurship (http://academic.evergreen.edu/groups/cse/). She has 30 years of administrative experience and 12 years in senior management for a $50 million corporation.
Melissa Estelle '96
Having rejoined the board after several years away, Melissa is an associate faculty member at Cascadia Community College. She completed her master’s degree in Wales, and is the proud mom of a current Evergreen student.
Jane Fisher '79, MPA '01
Jane started her college career at Evergreen and moved to the other Washington to earn her master’s in art history at American University. She returned as a staff member in the Evergreen Library in 1987. As the head of the Sound and Image Library, she has been responsible for creating and supporting the non-print and media section of the library. She has taught part-time classes over the years and completed her MPA degree in general organization and policy. She has volunteered in various capacities for Super Saturday, Friends of the Evergreen Library and the Alumni Association.
Arlen Harris MPA '08
Arlen received his BA in humanities from Washington State University in 1993 before completing his MPA at Evergreen. He is the legislative liaison for the Washington State Lottery Commission, and serves as the board link with the MPA Alumni Leadership Team.
Richard Oldenburg '08
A resident of Gig Harbor, Rick has a long history of leadership in non-profit development and planned giving. He is currently the principal partner in Oldenburg & Associates ("Advancement help for every Non-Profit"), and was the commencement speaker for the class of 2008. Rick serves as the board representative to The Evergreen State College Foundation board of governors, as well as the finance and scholarship and governance committees of the alumni board.
Margaret Oldenburg '08
Maggie's professional background is in education (early learning to higher education). She is currently employed as a family educator for the Puget Sound Educational Service District’s Early Head Start. Her past experiences include lead teacher for ECEAP (Early Childhood and Assistance Program) and associate director for financial aid and scholarships at the University of Puget Sound. Maggie serves on the finance and oversight fund committee and the governance committee.
Laurie Queen '96 (Tacoma Chapter Representative)
Sinnamon Tierney '98, MPA '00 (Portland Area Representative)
Sinnamon works at Portland State University as a research administrator and department manager for chemistry. She has a long history with Evergreen, originally enrolling as a transfer student to finish her last year of her bachelor's degree. She loved Evergreen and the faculty members’ approach to learning, so she stayed and finished her MPA. She was elected the second student trustee to Evergreen’s board of trustees in 1999-2000 and has served on the Alumni Association Board since 2001, including as president from 2002-2004. She lives in Portland, Ore., with her husband Kevin and her two daughters, Peyton, 10, and Regan, 8.
Linda Vail '96
Linda did postgraduate work at Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, Mass., in feminist theology and at St. Martins University in counseling psychology. She has a business background in real estate and interior design.
