Evergreen Presents A Traveling Seminar

Test results show U.S students falling far below their international cohorts in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) - a grave indicator, many argue, of the waning of U.S. global competitiveness. As educators, parents and citizens, how should we respond to these reports? How do we weigh the facts and balance them against the actual lives of the children in our care? Many voices call for a doubling-down on STEM classes to the exclusion of the other liberal arts. In this conversation, we'll try to get beyond the STEM:STEAM dichotomy to discuss what kind of education kids really need to become happy, productive global citizens. Join Fine Arts Consultant and advocate Pablo Schugurensky '84, MFA and Evergreen Provost Michael Zimmerman for a discussion about how we educate children for a world in transition.
