B.A., The Evergreen State College, 1981
Michael Hansen is a facilitator, trainer, and experiential educator who has an ability to highlight individual and group learning patterns in a manner that is simple, effective, and relatively painless (fun). He has worked with thousands of people throughout the United States, Europe, and South America, providing hands-on learning experiences that have an immediate impact as well as a heightened sense of awareness that unfolds over time. Another Way to Be – The Path Within is an endeavor to recreate a comparable learning experience through the use of story and metaphor.

Michael Hansen’s award-winning book, Another Way to Be – The Path Within is a delightful and thought-provoking read. The story offers a serious look at the human condition without taking itself too seriously. In the genre of Richard Bach’s Illusions, Dan Millman’s Way of the Peaceful Warrior, and the books of Carlos Castaneda, Hansen takes the reader on a captivating journey of exploration and self-discovery. Part novel, part training manual, the book received first place honors for Visionary Fiction from the Independent Publishers of North America. Hansen has excellent pacing, a talent for innovative wordplay, and a whimsical sense of humor. His Seven Principles of Learning and other nuggets of truth and wisdom are seamlessly woven into the fabric of the story. The writing is clear and concise and the images, as well as the principles and practices, linger long after finishing the relatively short 172 pages of this entertaining and engaging book.
How did Evergreen help you in your career?
I learned how to write at Evergreen. I started keeping a daily journal when I first arrived in 1976 and continued the practice for the next thirty years. Campus life generated lots of colorful imagery and out-of-the-box thinking that helped shape my evolving world view. The Evergreen State College campus is the backdrop for a significant portion of my novel.
