Sherry Clements was born and raised in Arkansas. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Goddard College located in Plainfield, Vermont. In 2008, she graduated from UALR with a Master's of Social Work degree. Her job history ranges from waiting tables to being an adjunct college instructor. Today she lives in Little Rock, Arkansas, with her son, John, a mutt named Gracie, a cat named Mouse, and one recycled rabbit. She is starting a fellowship in psychosocial rehabilitation for veterans with serious mental illnesses at the VA Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. A beautiful day in her life would have to include a bike ride along the Arkansas River. The Holdouts is her first novel.

That year spring hadn't been able to make up her mind. It'd warm up to seventy degrees, and the winter clothes would get packed away. The old people started setting out flats of tomatoes and marigolds in the backyard mud. Then the temperature would drop to below freezing, and all the new green leaves would die. It was on a false spring day like that when a visitor came to our house.
