September, 2004

Seattle, WA-After a tune-up at Saint Martin's college last week, the Evergreen men's and women's cross country teams opened their season at The University of Washington Sundodger Invitational last Saturday with strong showing for both teams as over 450 runners participated in the event.

"I am happy with how the women performed," said head coach Craig Dickson. "We are well ahead of our fitness levels at this time last year."

Meagan Mower led Evergreen with a 5k time of 20:53 and a 138th place finish. Sophomore Rachel Williams finished at 21:54 in 180th place. Liesl Plomski was third at 22:10 and Lacy Kilty ran a 26:37 for 187th and 225th place respectively. With only four women entered in the event the Geoducks were not eligible for a team score.

On the men's side two runners were held out with injuries and Jason McConnell was pulled out of the race by coach Dickson after two miles because of an injury leaving the men also with only four eligible runners.

Josh Klimek shaved 22 seconds off his time from last year's meet and led the Geoducks with a 58th place finish in the 8k race at 26:39. Sophomore Kyle Skaggs improved by a whopping 1:29 and 56 places coming in at 106th overall with a time of 27:35.
