Record performances for Geoducks at Sundodger Cross Country Open
W. SEATTLE , Wash . - Several Evergreen runners set personal records and topped past team performances at the twenty-eight team University of Washington 's Sundodger Open today.
The women's race, which was six kilometers in distance, was won by Jessica Pixler of Seattle Pacific in a time of 21:35. An average of 5:48 per mile. Simon Fraser University won the women's title with 59 points.
Kelly Beckham (Fr) again was the top Geoduck, finishing 65th overall in 23:42. Beckham showed her tenacity by hanging out in the top 25 in the first mile. Her time was an all-time 6k best for Evergreen and the team's best individual finish at this meet. Teamate Emily Uhlig (So) finished in 98th place (24:16) was a personal best for her at this meet. The remaining team members were held out of today's race. There were 265 finishers.
Evergreen Alumni Candy Owens ran for Club Northwest in the women's invitational race. Owens was a cross country Team member in 2002 and 2003 and is now working and living in Seattle . Her time of 22:57 placed her 89th .
The men's race saw the men's team place 21st of 28 teams. Brian Rakestraw (Fr) was the first Geoduck in 69th place with a time of 26:22 for eight kilometers. His placing and time was another all-time best for Evergreen. James Hudson (Jr) is rounding into form quickly with a personal best time of 26:51. The marathon man placed 103rd overall. Other finishers for Evergreen were Graeme Paulsen (Fr), Jason McConnell (Jr) and Bryan Torian (So). Last weekends second runner for the Geoducks, Miguel Pineda did not compete. There were 281 runners in the race.
