OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Geoducks are included among the seven teams represented at the St. Martin's University Invitational Saturday. The meet, which features teams from NCAA Division II, III and the NAIA, begins at 10:00 with the women's six kilometer race.

The women's team will run a strong squad of eight women. Look for a trio up front for Evergreen.

Senior Emily Uhlig (11th in '07) led the team all of last season. Uhlig earned All-Conference honors in '07. Ana Casillas, a redshirt last season but ran the '07 meet unattached, placed 13th in '07. A freshman Geoduck from Pateros, WA, Karissa Carlson finished ahead of both Uhlig and Casillas at the '07 meet as a high school athlete running unattached. Carlson has a sister on SMU's team and a brother who graduated as an All-American from same. Standout freshman Britta Peterson will not compete this weekend.

In '07 the team placed 4th out of 5 teams.

Like the women's team, the men will have three running up front. Two of the predicted top five are not yet back from their summer jobs.

Brian Rakestraw, another All-Conference Geoduck, placed 8th at this race in 07. Eric Jones (27th '07) is looking strong this season and does not have the trans-USA bicycle summer trip in his legs this year. Evergreen is glad to have Jason McConnell back, who is in his final season as a grad student. McConnell coached last year and was a three year varsity team member.

In '07, the men placed 4th out of 6 teams. Seven team members will run in the 8k race Saturday.

In the pre-season Cascade Conference poll, Evergreen's women are ranked 7th and the men 8th.
