PORTLAND, Ore. - Evergreen's women placed 6th in the competitive University of Portland Pier Park Invite Friday evening. A performance that ranks as the best in women's cross country history.

Twelve women's teams and 110 women finishers competed in the event that was held on warm, 80 degree afternoon. 14 men's teams took park with 134 finishers. ESC finished 10th in the men's 8k race.

Ana Casillas was the top finisher for ESC, placing 20th in a time of 24:09.46. That time will put Casillas in the #3 spot on the ESC All-Time list for 6k performances. Emily Uhlig (26th), Karissa Carlson (34th), Britta Peterson (72nd) and Lindsey Farah (75th) rounded out the top scorers for the Geoducks.

Evergreen Junior Brian Rakestraw continues to impress, placing 12th overall in a personal best time of 26:17. In fact, Rakestraw was a minute faster than his time on this course in '07.

As a team, it was a rough day for the men. Usual 3rd runner Jason McConnell dropped out with lower leg pain during the race, last weeks 6th man was left home for illness and the team is waiting the arrival of two team members who have summer work commitments.

Eric Jones ran a strong race as the teams second man, placing 49th in a time of 27:49.

Evergreen is at the Univ. of Washington Sundodger Open next Saturday at Lincoln Park in West Seattle.
