SALEM, Ore. - Evergreen's women's team had a history making performance today at the Charles Bowles Invitational hosted by Willamette University. Among the 28 scoring teams, Evergreen finished 13th overall. Ana Casillas (Jr, Puyallup) led the team with her 50th place in a time of 19:16.99. Brian Rakestraw (Jr, Woodinville, WA) led the men's team with his 33rd place overall in a time of 25:50.85.

Wet nighttime weather broke for good racing conditions this morning, but leaving the course soft and slower than normal due to the rain.

288 women finished today's Cardinal 5k featuring NAIA and NCAA Div. II & III schools and Evergreen put their top five scorers in the top 93 runners. The team boasted a 29 second pack time from their first runner to the fifth. In fact, just 11 seconds separated Evergreen's 2nd and 5th runner today.

Ten Cascade Conference Schools were represented and Evergreen finished 2nd in among them. The team finished ahead of Concordia University (Ranked 14th in last weeks NAIA ratings) and Corban College (30th NAIA). The Geoducks have currently been ranked 5th in the CCC and will hopefully get their first ever NAIA top 35 ranking when the polls come out on Tuesday.

In addition to Casillas, Emily Uhlig (SR. Renton, WA) finished 70th (19:34.80), newcomer Annie Mullen (SO, Northbrook, IL) placed 72nd (19:35.69), Britta Peterson (FR, Port Orchard, WA) was 85th (19:43.17) and Karissa Carlson (FR, Pateros, WA) rounded out the top 5 in 93rd (19:45.22).

The men's 8k race had ESC 20th out of 30 scoring teams and 5th among conference schools. The Geoducks finished ahead of two conference schools that had been ahead of them in the recent rankings. The debut of Freshman Daniel Paine (Shelton, WA) and season debut of Liam Rockwell (SO, Vashon, WA) helped the team, finishing as the 3rd and 4th runners on the squad today.

Eric Jones (Sr, Vancouver, WA) was second for ESC in 26:56.52 (108th) followed by Paine (127th, 27:07.21). Rockwell was 127th in 28:53.57 with Darin Martin (Falls Church, VA) close behind in 236th (29:02.71) to join Rakestraw as the top five scorers.
