Evergreen Loses Fourth Straight

LEWISTON, ID -- (KOZE Clearwater Tournament) - The Evergreen State College Geoducks (1-5) lost their fourth straight game on Friday evening to the hands of the Montana State University (Northern) Lights, 89-84.
The Geoducks started the game strong and played well with the help from point guard Karriem FieldingSacramento, Cal. / Burbank HS), who had 20-points on 7-13 shooting and 5 assists for the game. At halftime, the score was deadlocked 39-39. (
The second half was nearly as even as the first. The
difference lied on the hot shooting of Montana State, who, as a team, shot 62% (18-29) from the field in the second half, compared to Evergreen's 44% (17-38).
Larry Morinia had the hot hand for Montana State, and led all players with 28 points on 10-15 shooting. Morinia also grabbed 6 rebounds for the game.
The Lights had 3 other players in double figures on the night, Zach McLean (4-7), Kent Douglas (6-10), and Charlie Ereaux (5-10) each had 14 points in the win. Ereaux also grabbed a game high 12 rebounds, giving him a double-double.
The Geoducks also had four players in double figures, including Fielding. Devin Jones (Ogden, Utah / Bonneville HS) had his first double-double of his Evergreen career with 14 points (5-14) and 10 rebounds, 4 of which were offensive. Jones also dished out 4 assists for the game.
Tygann Billow (Bellevue, Wash. / Sammamish HS) and Ben Riippi (Puyallup, Wash. / Puyallup HS) each added 12 points for the Geoducks. Both players were perfect from downtown with Billow going 4-4 from the three-point line and Riippi going 3-3.
Overall Evergreen shot 50% from three-point land on 12-24 shooting, but it wasn't enough to come away with the win.
The Geoducks will have to rebound quickly on the second night of the KOZE Clearwater Tournament as they face a tough opponent in Lewis-Clark State College tomorrow evening at 7:30 p.m.
