OLYMPIA, WA -- Cascade Conference league play officially got under way on Tuesday evening, and the Geoducks are feeling pretty good about their overtime win against the Southern Oregon Red Raiders (0-1 Conference, 3-9 Overall), 93-89. The win gives Evergreen a 1-0 (4-8 overall) record in conference play and puts them at the top of the conference standings.

Going into Tuesday nights game, the Geoducks knew that they would probably see a zone defense by the Red Raiders, considering the fact that Evergreen's opponents had played zone defense the last two games, both Evergreen losses.

The Raiders plan worked in the first half, and the Geoducks shot a miserable 15% from the three-point line (2-13) and went into the locker room down 43-34.

During half-time, Evergreen Head Coach John Barbee told his team to, "keep attacking the hoop.we're shooting terrible from outside, but when we attack we get a bucket or we go to the free-throw line." That's exactly what Evergreen did during the second half, they attacked, and sat at the free-throw line.

For the game Evergreen shot 42 free-throws converting on 35 of the attempts (83%), compared to 28 attempts for Southern Oregon. The free-throws got the Geoducks back in the game and they took the lead late in the game.

The Red Raiders' Zac Olson drained a three with two seconds remaining, tying the game at 75, and sending the game into overtime.

In overtime, it was all Evergreen as they pulled away and fought off a late Southern rally, edging the Red Raiders by four, 93-89. Mike Parker (Washington DC / Clover Park HS) led the Geoducks with a season high 34 points on 11-19 shooting, including 11-17 from the free-throw line. Parker also tore down 15 rebounds, 6 offensive, and had a game high 3 blocks.

Marvin Isaac (Inglewood, Cal. / Inglewood HS) and Karriem Fielding (Sacramento, Cal. / Burbank HS) each had 19 points for Evergreen, Isaac went 8-9 from the free-throw line and Fielding was a perfect 6-6; Fielding also dished out 4 assists on the night.

Devin Jones (Ogden, Utah / Bonneville HS) chipped in 15 points for the Geoducks on 4-9 shooting and 6-6 from the free-throw line. Jones also had four assists and a game high 7 steals.

The Red Raiders were led by Zac Olson, who had a team high 26 points on 10-17 shooting, including 3-6 from the three point line. Olson also had a team high 9 rebounds.

TJ Caughell and Ryan Gabel were the other players in double figures for Southern Oregon. Caughell scored 20 points (4-7), 9 of which came from the free-throw line. He also had 7 assists. Gabel chipped in 10 points (3-12) for the Red Raiders, and also had 7 rebounds.

The Geoducks will enjoy the victory for the evening, and then prepare for the #1 ranked team in the nation, the Oregon Tech Hustlin' Owls. Evergreen will face Oregon Tech tomorrow evening, December 18, at 8:00 p.m. at Evergreen's College Recreation Center.
