Men's Basketball preseason 2004

The Evergreen State College men's basketball team has been picked to finish in eighth place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference by the conference coaches. Last season the Geoducks finished 7-11 in conference and 11-19 overall for an eighth place conference finish. The Geoducks last conference championship came in 2002 when Evergreen went 26-6 for the season and 19-1 in conference.

Oregon Tech, last year's conference champions, were picked by the coaches to repeat, while Southern Oregon, Albertson College and Western Baptist are expected to challenge for the top spot.

Head coach John Barbee, who will enter his eighth season with the Geoducks has high hopes for his team and will rely on a slew of incoming players to make an impact in the conference.

"Pre-season rankings don't mean a whole lot. It's where you finish that counts. I'm not surprised to be put in eighth place by the coaches. When you have a complete overhaul of your team, people don't expect much. We have Walter Tucker, our leading scorer and rebounder back, but we are bringing in nine new guys and many of them will be guys we look to right away as impact players."

Evergreen opens its season at home on November 5th as the Geoducks host cross-town rival Saint Martins at 7:30 p.m..
