Evergreen shows third ranked OIT they are serious

OLYMPIA, WA - The Evergreen State College Men's (6-14 overall, 3-7 CCC) gave the nationally third ranked Oregon Tech Hustlin' Owls (19-3 overall, 8-2 CCC) a run for their money, but the Geoducks came up short in a 58-68 loss tonight.

Both teams came out strong tonight, each making the other work for every point that went on the board. The Geoducks and Owls battled for the lead, Oregon taking it through the first half as the teams hit the break with Evergreen down 29-35. Coming out of the locker rooms, the Greeners meant business and tied the game 40-40 after five minutes. At eight minutes a three pointer from Doug Dietz put the Geoducks in the lead 47-44. The Owls then pulled away with an 11-24 run as Evergreen hit a wall, but never allowed the Owls an easy basket.

Evergreen's Pat Mattson, recorded a double-double with the team high of 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Thomas Cook followed in his footsteps with 10 points and 10 rebounds, point guard, Luke Hammond, also added 11 points for the Geoducks. Oregon 's All-American, Ryan Fiegi, scored the game high of 20 points tonight, closing followed by Levell Hesia. A large factor in tonight's game came from the free throw line. OIT taking advantage of 25 of their 34 attempts, while Evergreen put in 14 of their 21.

The Evergreen men will host Southern Oregon , who are ranked sixth nationally and second in conference play, Saturday, January 21st at 7:30 p.m. in the CRC at the Evergreen State College.
