OLYMPIA, WA - The Evergreen State College Men's basketball team (6-15 overall, 2-8 CCC), gave the nationally sixth ranked Southern Oregon Raiders (20-3 overall, 9-2 CCC) a run for their money tonight, but couldn't come up with the win in a 61-66 defeat.

The Geoducks had the heat on throughout the first twenty minutes, making sure the Raiders knew whose house they were in. Both teams fought for the lead, but the Raiders took it going into the half.

Evergreen came out strong after the break quickly making a tied game and once again the men battled for the lead. The Greeners had the Raiders within three points in the last minute but couldn't get any closer in the remainder of the game.

In an incredibly physical game Southern put up 39 attempts from the free throw line, taking advantage of 23. The Geoducks had trouble finding a call and only got to the line 15 times putting in 11 of those.

Evergreen's, Pat Mattson, accounted for an astounding 34 of the Geoduck's points tonight. Southern's All-American, Shea Washington , was close behind with 33 and 10 rebounds for a double-double.

The Evergreen men will go on the road next week, traveling to LaGrande , Ore. to take on Eastern Oregon on the 27 th at 7:30 p.m.
