OLYMPIA , Wash - Tom Kenna, announced the signing of his first recruit as Evergreen's head men's basketball coach today as Azubo Bearden signed a letter of intent to play with the Geoducks in the 2006-07 season.

Bearden, a 6'-0" guard at Whatcom Community College , averaged 16.1 points per game and 2.7 rebounds per game last season. The Bellingham , Washington native led his high school team to a fifth place finish at the Washington State Tournament in 2004 and was named First Team All-Northwest.

"Azubo is a great addition to our team," said Kenna, who's Geoducks finished the season second in the nation in scoring defense. "Academically he isan excellent student, athletically he has the ability to shoot the three and take defenders off the bounce. But most importantly he is a quality person. We look forward to seeing him excel on and off the court here at The Evergreen State College."

Bearden will add a perimeter scoring threat for the Geoducks. The sharpshooter made just under 50 percent of his shots from the field last season, including a very efficient 39.7 percent from behind the arc.

Kenna expects to add several more players to the team over the coming weeks.
