January 24, 2008
OLYMPIA, Wash. - Friday night Evergreen hosts Oregon Institute of Technology and Saturday Southern Oregon University will be in town. Women's tip-off is at 5:30 and the men begin at 7:30 PM.
In women's action, Evergreen (3-7 CCC & 4-15 overall ) has a pair of tough games ahead. OIT comes to ESC with fourth in the conference standings and an overall record of 15-5. Southern Oregon (8-2, 17-3) is ranked third in the CCC.
Says head coach Monica Heuer, "It will be a big weekend for us. In fact, all the games from now on are big".
In December the Geoducks lost to OIT 60-78 and SOU 77-87. They have slipped a place out of playoff contention.
"We have energy, the team has been working hard mentally and physically. We are working on executing better and not being self destructive in the later stages of the game" adds Heuer.
Evergreen State's men's team is glad to be playing OIT at home. In December OIT beat Evergreen by ten points in Klamath Falls. The Geoducks soundly defeated SOU (3-7, 7-13) by 21 points that same weekend.
"The guys are ready for this game. If playing OIT doesn't make them excited, nothing will" notes head coach Jeff Drinkwine.
Oregon Tech is currently ranked #6 in NAIA Division II polls. Evergreen was voted at 34th place in the latest rankings.
Evergreen's men's team is 3-16 in their all-time series with OIT and 5-12 with SOU.
The Geoducks stand at 11-5 overall and 6-4 in conference play. There are currently in fourth place in the CCC.
