Fiegi, Cavanaugh Lead Oregon Tech Over Evergreen

December 19, 2007

KLAMATH FALLS , Ore. - Tech's Ryan Fiegi had a season high 29 points and Christian Cavanaugh added 23 to lift Tech to a hard fought 90-80 victory over The Evergreen State College, keeping Tech perfect at home on the season. The win moves the Hustlin' Owls to 12-2 overall and 3-1 in Cascade Conference play. The loss drops ESC to 7-2 and 2-2 in the CCC.

The Owls jumped out to a 15-5 lead within the first five minutes of the half, only to see Evergreen chip away and tie the game at 22-22 at the 10:36 mark. A Cavanaugh 3-pointer would put the Owls back on top, as Evergreen would get no closer the remainder of the half going into the locker room down 41-32.

Oregon Tech would hold a double digit lead, but with under 10 minutes remaining, Evergreen would convert baskets on three Owl turnovers to cut the lead to six points at 56-50. Tech would then score back-to-back baskets to get the lead back to 11 points with 9:31 remaining. Another Tech run, as Jugwon Hogges (Jr. Atwater, CA) would convert on three lay-ups and a jumper by Nate Lewis (JR. Culver, OR), would push the lead back to 15 points with under five minutes on the clock. ESC would again cut the lead to seven, but a Mike Nieraeth (SO. Bonanza, OR) 3-point FG would ice the game with only 2:10 in the game, giving the Hustlin' Owls a 90-80 win.

Evergreen had four players in double digit points led by Nate Menafee's 25 on 9-24 shooting. Nick Moore and David Howard each had 15 points while Marcus Whittaker added 10.

Tech's Jguwon Hogges was the only other Owl in double digit scoring with 17 points and adding nine rebounds. Josh Wetzler (JR. Perth, AUS) grabbed a game high 10 rebounds with Cavanaugh adding nine boards to his total.

The Geoducks resume play January 4th at home when they host Cascade College in a 7:30 PM conference game.
