McMINNVILLE, Ore. - From the opening tip, Nathan Menefee was too much to handle. The Evergreen point guard tallied 31 points as the Geoducks knocked off Linfield 90-82 Friday night at Ted Wilson Gymnasium.

With the win Evergreen improves to 8-2 on the year. Linfield drops to 1-4.

In the first half of play, the Geoducks were unable to be stopped at the offensive end of the floor, shooting 48 percent from the field and 50 percent from the 3-point range.

During the first 20 minutes, Evergreen staked a 47-36 lead. Prior to the Geoducks taking the lead, the half could not have started off much better for the Wildcats. K.C. Wiser scored six early points and Erik Olson drilled home a 3-pointer to give Linfield a 9-1 edge to open the night.

If there was a key moment in the first half it came at the 5:31 mark when Wiser picked up his third personal foul. With Wiser forced to the sideline, the Geoducks rolled off a 17-6 run before intermission.

Evergreen's Moore and Menefee proved too tough to stop, combining for 31 points in the half. Meanwhile on the offensive end, Linfield committed 10 turnovers during the frame.

The Geoducks cashed in those turnovers for 14 points. Coming out of the break Linfield was unable to make much of a dent in the Evergreen State lead. Olson got the 'Cats within seven at 53-45 with 15:40 to play, but Linfield was unable to break within seven throughout the first ten minutes of the second half.

Finally with 9:02 to play Olson hit another big shot, drilling home a 3-pointer to make it 65-61. Two free throws from Wiser followed and the Geoducks had seen their lead cut to two.

From that point on it was all Menefee. The Evergreen point guard sliced and diced his way to the basket down the stretch. Every time the Wildcats cut the deficit to three, Menefee had an answer. With 7:10 to go, Menefee hit his second 3-pointer in a one minute span to boost the Geoducks to a 71-66 advantage.

At the 3:02 mark he hit another three to put the Geoducks up 11 at 80-69. Linfield made one last push in the final minutes but was unable to get the tying bucket.

Cody Tesoro cut the score to 83-77 with 1:50 to go, but Menefee immediately answered with a score of his own. Moore finished the night with 27 points on 10-of-15 shooting. Wiser led Linfield with 23 points while Olson chipped in with 21 points of his own.

The Geoducks held a sizeable advantage inside, outscoring the Wildcats 22-4 in the painted area. Evergreen also out-rebounded Linfield 36-28, including 13 offensive rebounds.

Evergreen plays Western Oregon University tomorrow night at 7:30 in their second non-league road game of the weekend.
