Evergreen loses 8th ranked Cavaliers

October 6, 2001

Olympia, WA - The night after Evergreen (4-8, 2-7) knocked off Western Baptist, the Geoducks tried to do the unthinkable, beat one of the best teams in the nation. The battle was fought well, but the Geoducks didn't have the stamina to stay with the Cavaliers (15-3, 10-0).

Evergreen struggled to get acclamaited to the power of the Cavaliers. Evergreen lost the first game 30-16, but then seemed to gain momentum and finished the second game losing 30-21. In the final game, Evergreen and Concordia traded the lead, but in the end, Concordia took the lead for good, winning 30-28. T

Evergreen was lead by Stephanie Short (Spokane, Wash./ Spokane Falls CC) who had 12 kills and two blocks in the match. Courtney Brandon (Pomeroy, Wash. / Walla Walla CC) added ten kills and three blocks, but it was not enough to overcome the Cavaliers well rounded attack.

The game last night may have taken a little out of the Geoducks, "We were fatigued, we played five long games last night, and knew we had to come back with our best game tonight," said Evergreen coach Bill Lash.

The Geoducks will be at Northwest College on Tuesday night. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
