Salem, OR - Liz Howe delivered 16 kills and Denee Newton equaled a career high with 14 as Western Baptist topped Evergreen in a Cascade Collegiate Conference contest, 30-18, 30-24, 31-29.

After a five-game marathon victory last night over Northwest, the Warriors (12-6, 7-4 CCC) appeared a step slow for most of the night, but were able to hand the Geoducks (4-16, 2-9) their fifth loss in a row.

Courtney Brandon paced the visitors with eight kills, but Evergreen was only able to connect on 24 as a team and hit .043. Western Baptist had 58 kills and attacked at a .246 clip. However, 27 attack errors on the night by the Warriors, including 22 in games two and three, kept Evergreen in the match.

Western jumped on top 6-0 in game one en route to breezing to the opening win. Game two was tied at 16 until the home team pushed its advantage to eight before closing the contest.

Evergreen led much of game three, including 23-18 before Western tied things with a 5-0 run. The Geoducks served for the game at 29-28, but the Warriors tallied the final three points - the last on a solo block by Kendra Mitchell who also finished with 13 kills.

Defensively, Jamie Ruda was the only player to reach double figures in digs, picking up 11 for the Warriors. Kristen Bartley had match-high honors with six blocks for the Geoducks.

After playing six matches at home, Western Baptist is back on the road at Cascade on Friday. Evergreen also has a conference match on Friday, traveling to Northwest.
