Geoducks Lose Early Lead, Fall to Western Baptist in Volleyball

Olympia, WA - The Evergreen State College jumped out to a first-game lead over visiting Western Baptist College on Tuesday night in women's volleyball before falling in four games 32-30, 26-30, 17-30, 25-30.

Western Baptist, which upped its Cascade Conference record to 4-2, got a devastating one-two punch at the net from senior NCAA Division I transfer Kendra Mitchell (University of Portland) and sophomore Kim Turin. Mitchell had 15 kills, Turin 14. Ashley Walbridge had 36 assists for the Warriors and Jamie Ruda collected 30 digs.

Evergreen, which fell to 0-5 in Cascade play and 1-8 overall, was led by senior setter Hanna Plunk, who had a strong all-around night with 10 kills, 26 assists and 16 digs. Olympia's Stephanie Jackson and Tenino's Emily Peterson had nine kills each for the Geoducks. Elyse Johnston had six service aces to lead the match and also contributed 18 digs.

Evergreen travels to Portland on Friday night to take on Cascade College-also 0-5 in conference play-in a match that is assured to provide one team with its first win of the season.
