September 23, 2005

Olympia, WA - The only thing sweeter than your first game win: your first match win. After an hour and a half of play, The Evergreen State College Geoducks pulled out their first volleyball win of the season.

Taking the first two games to get warmed up, Evergreen ordered up a five-game win over the visiting Warner Pacific Knights: 29-31, 25-30, 30-16, 30-24, 19-17.

The Geoducks win handed the Knights their eighth loss of the season and their sixth conference loss. Previous to tonight's match, Evergreen was sitting on a six game losing streak and at the bottom of the Cascade Conference standings, along with Warner Pacific. After tonight's match, the Geoducks have inched up a notch in the standings and are looking to turn the corner in the first half of the season.

Leading the Geoducks in the statistics were Mattie Blevens and Elyse Johnston, each with 12 kills. The sophomore/senior duo added to Evergreen's total 52 kills on the night, a number also matched by Warner Pacific. Katey Carpenter led the Knights in kills with 17.
