Walla Walla, WA - The Geoducks ended their seven game losing streak in great fashion on Monday evening with a 35 point blow out victory over Walla Walla College, 85-50.
The Geoducks' (2-13 overall, 0-4 conference) relentless defense and hot shooting proved to be the difference in the game. Evergreen shot 45% from the field in the first half (18-40) and held the Walla Walla Wolves to just 26% shooting (7-26).
The hot shooting of Evergreen led to an 11-0 run in the first half, giving the Geoducks a comfortable 44-22 lead at halftime.
The second half was similar to the first with Evergreen outscoring the Wolves 41-28. For the game the Geoducks shot 45% from the field (32-70), including 39% from the three point line (7-18).
Evergreen's defense held Walla Walla to 28 % shooting (16-57). The Geoducks did not allow one three pointer from the Wolves the entire game (0-7). Evergreen also forced the Wolves to 23 turnovers. In her first game of the season for the Geoducks, Dodie McCallum (Elma, WA/ Elma HS) had 13 points on 6-10 shooting. McCallum also grabbed a team high 8 rebounds.
Shiante Reed (Tacoma WA/ Foss HS) led all players with 25 points on 9-14 shooting, including 5-9 from the three-point line. Reed also had a team high 3 steals.
Toni Jones (Rock Springs, WY/ Rock Springs HS) chipped in 14 points for the Geoducks on 6-10 shooting in just 21 minutes of play.
Walla Walla had only one player score in double figures on the night. Stephanie Jones had 12 points in the loss on 4-9 shooting. Jones also had a game high 12 rebounds, giving her a double double.
The Geoducks will use the victory to gain momentum going into this weekends conference match-ups. Evergreen will host Western Baptist on Friday, January 10, at 6:00 p.m. The following night the Geoducks will host Concordia University, tip-off will for that game will also be at 6:00 p.m.
