January 22, 2005

La Grande, OR - Christie Weaver's hot hand helped Eastern Oregon down the upstart Evergreen State College Geoducks 74-58 tonight. The loss put an end to Evergreen's five game winning streak and dropped them back to fifth place in the conference standings.

With the win, Eastern stays one-half game back in the Cascade Conference race for first, behind Oregon Institute of Technology.

Weaver jumped out of the gate scoring Eastern's first 11 points, which included three treys. She would lead all scorers with 21 points.

The Geoducks (11-10, 6-5 CCC) main threat was Jenny Olson, who finished the game with 18 points.

Eastern (12-5, 9-1 CCC) would go into the half, up comfortably, 39-22. The Mountaineer's built the lead from behind the arc shooting 6-10. Jamie Jo Cant contributed two of those and finished with 13 points.

Vanessa Shelton had a season high nine assists, which will help her stay at the upper end in NAIA Division II leaders, where she ranks eighth.

Evergreen returns home this weekend to take on conference basement-dweller Southern Oregon on Friday night, and top-dog Oregon Tech Saturday. Both games are at 5:30 p.m.
