Turnovers key in Geoduck's loss

January 21, 2006

Olympia, WA - The Evergreen State Women's Basketball team (5-15 overall, 3-8 CCC) were unable to break their losing streak tonight and recorded a 46-55 loss to the Southern Oregon Raiders (10-12 overall, 3-8 CCC).

Both teams came out hard battling for the lead the entire first half. With Evergreen's, Jenny Olson, standing out with 11 rebounds, the Geoducks led at the break 26-24.

Unforced turnovers plagued Evergreen throwing away 25 possessions compared to the Raiders 14. Evergreen out-rebounded the Raiders 44-33 but could not convert those into points offensively, shooting 28.3 percent from field goal range and a frightening 2-16 behind the three point line.

Southern took lead at the four minute mark, not allowing Evergreen to regain that head position. Getting down to the wire the Geoducks began intentionally fouling sending Oregon to the line. The Raiders put in 20 of their 27 attempts for the night.

Olson recorded another double-double tonight with 10 points and 18 rebounds, while Dalia Gomez and Rachel Ross both added 11 for Evergreen. Southern's Chelsea Zimmerman led the game with 16 points, 11 of those coming from the charity stripe. Andi Peterson and Ashley Hafner both contributed 14 and ten for the Raiders as well.

The Evergreen Geoducks will be back on the road next weekend as they travel to La Grande, OR to the home of Eastern Oregon. The game will take place on Friday the 27th at 5:30 p.m.
