Geoducks Tabbed Sixth by Coaches
October 20, 2005
Olympia, WA - After a fifth place conference finish and a 16-14 overall record in 2005-06, the Evergreen State College women's basketball team is picked to finish sixth this season in the pre-season Cascade Collegiate Conference coaches' poll.
Coach Monica Heuer's Geoducks will play without the services of forward Heather Hyde and point guard Stephanie MacDuff, both lost to graduation. The two were third and fifth respectively on the team in scoring and Hyde was the Geoducks second-leading rebounder.
Evergreen will also have to find a replacement for freshman Kamrica Ary-Turner who transferred to Seattle University. She was the top rebounder and second-leading scorer for the Geoducks last season.
But Evergreen returns top scorer and team leader Jenny Olson. Olson averaged over 12 points per game last fall and was third in rebounding. Also back is shooting guard Dalia Gomez who was fourth in scoring and third in assists last season.
The Geoducks will look to athletic sophomore Danielle Keenan to do some of the inside work that fell to Hyde and Ary-Turner last season. According to coach Heuer, the 5'11" forward has had a great off-season and could make a big impact this winter.
Evergreen opens the season November 8th at cross-town rival Saint Martin's University. The Geoducks then return to campus for a home-opener November 12th against Concordia-Irvine at 5:30 p.m.
