Evergreen State upsets #23 NAIA Div. II EOU 67-63

Olympia, WA - For the second night in a row, the Evergreen State Geoducks have upset leading conference teams. Last night, Evergreen defeated #3 CCC ranked College of Idaho 79-71. Tonight the Geoducks got the best of #2 CCC / #23 NAIA Div II Eastern Oregon University 67-63.
The team had great home crowd support to match the teams enthusiastic play. By the time Evergreen went into to the locker room at the end of the first period, the Greenhouse was rockin' to the tune of a 32-25 point lead.
Eastern Oregon never let up. They went on a run in the first five minutes of the second half. First, Jenny Fiso hit a three at 13 minutes and then Elise Hawes added another three two minutes later to help the Mounties pull ahead by 7 points.
Evergreen answered back with their own run starting with a field goal by Joy White (Jr, Berkeley, CA) and then Kristi Auckland (Jr, Cascade HS), who scored the game high of 18 points, hit 2 field goals and two free throws to pull within two. Jennifer Solberg (Sr. Franklin Pierce HS) tied the game with a field goal at 5 minutes remaining.
The play went back and fourth up until 50 seconds left when Hawes hit another key three pointer to bring EOU ahead by one.
Following a timeout by EOU, Evergreen's Molly Clark (Sr. Boise, ID) connected a 3 point shot, putting ESC in the lead by two with 25 seconds left. EOU was forced to foul and sent White to the line where she made both attempts to seal the victory.
Head Coach Monica Heuer was ecstatic with the win. "What a great weekend! Both nights the team thought out their plays well" Adding, "They are maturing as ball players and hitting their peak now".
Tiffanie Ulmer was EOU's leading scorer with 16 pints and 5 rebounds. Elise Hawes hit 2 of 3 three point attempts to add to her 12 point total.
Evergreen's Auckland had another great night, scoring 18 points (2 of 3 from three point range) and 7 rebounds. Clark hit 4 of 4 three point attempts to total 12 points, Rosalind Lee (Jr. Oakland, CA) also tallied 12 points. Five ESC players scored in double numbers.
Associate Coach Mychael Heuer also acknowledged the strong team play. "Joy White (point guard) was confident in herself and her teammates. They know the plays and executed them well".
Tonight was the last home game for four Evergreen Seniors. Katie Beck, Molly Clark, Jennifer Solberg and Bonita Wilcox have put in a combined nine seasons of basketball for Evergreen.
Evergreen is now 9-18 overall and 8-10 in the conference. EOU slips to a 22-4 overall and 15-4 conference record, still maintaining 2nd place.
The Geoducks are on the road for their last two regular season games. Next Friday the team travels to Portland, OR to meet Warner Pacific College followed by Cascade College the following night.
