Geoducks Prepare for Home Games Friday and Saturday

January 28, 2009

Olympia, WA - The Women's Basketball Team has crept back up in the Cascade Conference Standings to 7th place. While the team went 1-3 last week on the road, their game play has improved and coach Monica Heuer is counting on the momentum to pull them into the conference playoffs at the end of February.

A top 8 standing will get the team into the first round of the tournament.

This weekend the team hosts Concordia University on Friday and Corban College on Saturday. Both games will be at 5:30 PM.

Concordia (11-1 CCC, 18-2) is currently #15 in the NAIA Div. II. In their last meeting on Dec. 6th in Portland, ESC played a solid game but lost by 9 points.

Coach Heuer believes her team has turned a corner.

"Losing Roz (Rosalind Lee) to injury was hard on everybody. But the team has come together and other players have stepped up".

Lee was a CCC Player of the Week in November.

"We are starting to peak, our defense is coming together and players like Angel Stewart and Alex Saab have really contributed to the team lately" adds Heuer.

Add to the mix the high scoring ability of Kristi Auckland, the composure of Joy White and speed of Jeanette Owens and the team has the ability to compete with the best in the conference.

The Warriors of Corban College (8-12) play Evergreen Saturday night and they share a conference record of 4-8 with the Geoducks.
