Overtime Loss for Evergreen at Northwest

Kirland, WA - Northwest University earned a 61-57 overtime victory over the Evergreen tonight in Cascade Conference play aided by Erika Hornyak's 21 points.
The game was tight from start to finish with neither team gaining much of an upper hand. In a low scoring first half that saw a combined 39 points scored between to two teams.
Hornyak would tie the game a 9-9 with her jumper at the 12:52 mark. Hornyak would increase NU's lead to 15-9 with another jumper four minutes later (8:32) but 5 straight Geoduck points would pull Evergreen State to within one point.
Geoduck Alex Saab drilled a jumper with 6:55 left in the half. Rachel Mitchell would put the Eagles up 19-14 on her jumper at the 5:52 mark and teammate Dani Drivstuen would increase the NU lead to 20-14 two minutes and 45 seconds later.
Five straight points by Saab on a 3-pointer and jumper with 18 seconds left would give Northwest a narrow 20-19 lead at intermission.
Evergreen came out firing in the second half as they would go on a 12-2 run and bolt to a 31-23 lead capped off by Jeanette Owen's 2-pointer with 14:40 to go.
Northwest would go on a run of their own and out score the Geoducks 10-2 to knot the score at 33 a piece at the 9:29 mark. The game would see three ties and several lead changes and Kristi Auckland would pull ESC to within one, 49-48 with 1:19 ticks left on the game clock.
Rachel Mitchell would give NU a 50-48 as she drilled one of two free throws, but Auckland would do it again as she hit a jumper with 47 seconds left in the game to tie the game at 50-all, sending it into overtime.
The overtime would go to the Eagles as they would shoot 8 for 10 from the free throw line and senior Brittany Bowsher hit a key 3-pointer with 1:32 to go to put NU up 57-52 and follow it up by making two straight free throws to increase NU's lead to 59-52 with 1:12 left in the extra period.
Auckland would end the scoring for Evergreen and the game as she drilled another jumper with 7 seconds to go as Northwest would hold on for the victory.
Hornyak (Soph., Everett, Wash.) led Northwest (8-16, 6-9 CCC) with her 21 points. Senior Brittany Bowsher (Issaquah, Wash.) added 10 points and freshman Jessalyn Jackson (Vancouver, Wash.) scored a double-double with 10 points and a game high 14 rebounds.
Northwest out rebounded ESC 43-38 including 14 offensive boards. The Eagles shot 34% from 2-point FG range and 35% from beyond the 3-point arc.
Evergreen's (9-13, 4-11 CCC) leading scorer was senior Auckland (Everett, Wash.) with her game high 23 points and 10 rebounds. Owens (Senior, Pasco, Wash.) added 11 points for the Geoducks and Angel Stewart (Soph., Yakima, Wash.) grabbed 10 rebounds.
The Geoducks were held to 33.9% shooting for the game and 9.5% from the 3-point line (2 for 21).
Evergreen will head south to Eugene, Oregon this weekend for a single game match-up with Northwest Christian University. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
