New additions to the team
June 13, 2009
Olympia, WA - This week when head coach Monica Heuer proudly watched her graduating seniors walk at Friday's graduation ceremony she knew the vacancies will be hard to fill. Heuer, who is coming up on her ninth season at Evergreen, announced the names of her newest players and believes they will contribute well to the program, as their predecessors did.
"I could not be more excited and privileged to have the addition of the following players. We have a good combination of all the right ingredients" beamed Heuer.
Chelsey Nill (5-9), 2nd team NWAACC All-League from Yakima Valley CC, brings a winners attitude along with the ability to play inside or outside, her team was undefeated in league play and she was co-captain. From Kent, WA, Nill graduated from Seattle Prep.
A teammate of Nill, the 5-8 Brittany Weaver (Curtis HS, University Place, WA) will join her at Evergreen. Brittany is versatile and will be able to add depth at the guard position.
Latrina Woods is one of the smoothest and quickest players coach Heuer has ever seen. Woods will have an immediate impact on the court. The 5-8 transfer is from LaSierra University and a former standout from Meadowdale HS.
A 5-9 transfer from Highline CC, Allison Maas will bring additional toughness to the court perimeter. A good shooter, Maas equally sees the court very well.
Kiara Honore (Anchorage, AK) is 5-2 transfer from South Puget Sound Community College who earned Second Team NWAACC All-League. Honore will also add toughness on defense while playing at the guard position.
Yet another experienced transfer, Tana Palmason (5-9) comes to Evergreen from The Master's College. Palmason will bring her tenacity and outside shooting.
Voted Most Improved and captain of her state-bound Bellermine Prep HS team is Shalece Butler-Woods (6-0). Woods will give added height in the post.
Last but not least, Shekia Hill (5-8) guard, 1st team all league, captain and MVP of her Steilacoom HS team has the potential to be a very good college player. Hill has an all around game that will only get better.
Graduating seniors from the Evergreen roster include Kristi Auckland, Rosalind Lee, Jeanette Owens and Joy White. All of whom were strong team players that will be missed.
