Central Washington 2, Evergreen 0

September 5, 2001

Ellensburg, WA - On a day more fit to fly a kite, Central Washington capitalized on an early Evergreen miscue and rode a stiff defense to a 2-0 women's soccer shutout on Tomlinson Field.

Gusts of wind over 35 m.p.h. plagued both teams, but the Wildcats (2-4) used a Kim Glusick goal in the fifth-minute to take the lead. Geoduck keeper Nora Moloney (Bainbridge Island, Wa/Western Oregon) booted an errant goal kick into the wind that the sophomore trapped, dribbled, and drove into the net.

The Evergreen (1-3) defense was stingy the rest of the half, however, as Central tried 15 more shots at Moloney, but none found paydirt.

The 'Cats added an insurance goal early in the second half, as junior Stacey Wyndam took a pass from Glusick in the box and found the upper left corner of the goal.

Having been outshot 16-1in the first half, the Geoducks put pressure on CWU keeper Emily Barber in crunchtime, but the senior withstood the challenge. Evergreen defender Janica Blasko (Anchorage, Ak/South Colorado) had a pair of opportunities, including a shot off the crossbar, but couldn't find the twine.

The victory ended a Wildcat two-game losing streak and extended their winning streak against Evergreen to seven in a row.

Evergreen continues its road trip Saturday with their Cascade Conference opener in Portland, Ore., against Cascade College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
