Road sweep of EOU and Albertson lands Evergreen in playoffs

October 23, 2004

Caldwell, ID - Alisha White insured that she would remain among the Cascade Conference scoring leaders and that The Evergreen State College women's soccer team would advance to the conference playoffs, scoring the decisive two goals in a 3-1 Geoduck victory over Albertson on Saturday afternoon.

Combined with a 3-2 overtime win over Eastern Oregon in LaGrande on Friday, the victory extended Evergreen's unbeaten string to nine games. The Geoducks, under new coach Erik Gibson-Snyder, finish the regular season at 8-2-1 in the conference and 8-6-2 overall. The league mark is Evergreen's best-ever and the overall record is the best since Jan Smisek guided the 1995 team to a 12-8 mark as an independent.

Evergreen, second behind the NAIA's fourth-ranked team, Concordia University in the Cascade North Division, will travel to Salem on Thursday to take on Western Baptist College in a first-round playoff game. Western won the Cascade South Division with a 10-1-1 record and posted a 12-5-1 mark overall.

In Saturday's game at Albertson, the Geoducks fell behind on an unassisted goal by the Coyotes' Lindsay Russell just five and one-half minutes into the game, but took the lead before halftime on goals by Lena Ishii and White. White added an insurance goal 10 minutes into the second half, her 17th of the season, and Evergreen, which outshot Albertson 15-7, coasted home.

Carly Stewart had a pair of saves in goal for Evergreen.
