Evergreen Tops Albertson's to Advance to Playoffs

October 15, 2005

Caldwell, ID - The Evergreen women's soccer team rebounded from a disappointing tie at Eastern Oregon to down Albertson College 1-0 and advance to the Cascade Collegiate Conference playoffs.

The Geoducks got a first-half goal on a long-range blast from sophomore forward Kate Green for the win. The goal is the seventh of the season for Green.

Evergreen came out and played intensely the first half to dominate the 'Yotes. The Geoducks recorded 18 of their 20 shots during the first period while holding Albertson to just four looks at goal. Goalkeeper Carly Stewart was called on to make only one save during the game on a harmless bouncing ball shot from 25 yards.

Green led all players with six shots on the day, while newcomer Jackie McClendon had four tries on the afternoon in limited action.

The win moves Evergreen to 10-0-4 on the season and solidifies the Geoducks' second-place position in conference play behind Concordia University. Evergreen and Concordia play Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Olympia. Evergreen handed Concordia their only conference loss of the year in the first meeting between the two teams. But due to Evergreen's three conference ties, the Geoducks must beat Concordia a second time to claim top spot in the conference.
