August 24, 2006
Olympia, WA - The Evergreen women's soccer team held the Central Washington squad to a stalemate in the first period as both teams appeared to be well matched. A penalty kick and a hard shot from the middle gave Central the win over Evergreen by two goals with a final score of 0-2.
Central stepped up their passing game in the second period, keeping the Geoducks scrambling on their half of the field playing defensively. A foul within Evergreen's penalty box gave Central midfielder Stacey Bankston (Bellevue , WA) a chance to put some points on the board. She answered with an impressive kick to the high right corner of Evergreen's goal.
Eight minutes later Wildcat Arica Slawson (Buckley , WA) followed her first shot, which rebounded off an Evergreen defender, with a hard boot down the middle that caught keeper Carly Stewart (Federal Way, WA) off guard.
Evergreen sophomore April Mackay (Seattle , WA) led the team in shots with three. The team totaled 10 shots to Central's 16.
The Geoducks play tomorrow at 2:00 PM against Doane College (NE). The men's team will follow at 5:00 PM in their season's opener also against Doane.
