Team frustrated by Conference loss to Cascade
September 22, 2007
Olympia, WA - Saturday's loss to Cascade College was frustrating for Evergreen. In fact, it was the teams first loss to Cascade in school history.
Evergreen's record against Cascade has six shutouts against the Thunderbirds since 2001, including a 15-0 win in 2005. Assuming the 2007 Geoducks are not as good as past teams would be premature. Cascade College has the best team in their history.
Ranked second to last in Cascade Conference pre-season polls, Cascade has surprised everyone by holding onto the number three spot in the conference.
Some key starters did not play this weekend for Evergreen. Maeve Dempsey, Kate Green, Marissa Major and Kaleena White are sitting out with injuries. Coach Purtteman is confident that most of those players will be back in play soon.
Following a back and forth game, Cascade scored in the second half at seventy-four minutes when Alisha Butler found net in an unassisted goal.
ESC had 7 shots and 3 shots on goal to Cascade's 13 and 5. Geoduck Monica Ragan came the closest to scoring with 2 shots on goal.
Evergreen has slipped to 7th in the conference following weekend losses.
Up next for Evergreen are two home games against CCC schools. Southern Oregon U will be here Friday for a 3 PM game and Saturday Oregon Tech hits Geoduck turf at 1 PM.
