1-0 Win Over Bruins
September 13, 2009
Olympia, WA - Women's soccer won their first game of the season Sunday evening, improving their record to 1-1-3 and defeating NCAA Div. III George Fox University in a non-league game. The match winning goal came from Frosh Emma Loftis (Eatonville HS) forty-two minutes into play.
Evenly match play defined the course of the game as both teams traded offensive bursts into the opposing side of the field. George Fox seemed to have the most energy in the opening minutes and had some close shots.
The Geoducks played possibly their best passing game so far this season with practiced passing maneuvers that helped them break through the Bruins defense on a few occasions.
Monica Ragan (SO, Boise, ID) had a couple on target shots back to back midway through the first period but were saved by GFU keeper Becka Doyle.
The game winning point came from a right side pass from Brianna Speed (SO, Lake Washington HS) outside the goal box where Loftis picked it up near the center of the penalty box. Loftis had the momentum and was able to get a foot on the ball ahead of the defenders for a short punch into the net.
George Fox had a total of 12 shots with 7 on target attempts. Evergreen has 11 shots and 8 shots on goal.
Both teams keepers picked up 7 saves with ESC's Sonya Daisley-Harrison (SR, Tahoma HS) getting the nod in the goalie decision.
Three road games are on the schedule for Evergreen. Their first in Portland Wednesday at Lewis and Clark College, a non-league game. Next weekend they are into their CCC schedule at College of Idaho on the 25th and Eastern Oregon the following day.
