Salish Star Stories in Lushootseed: With Lois Landgrebe yəẁyəłdaʔ (Tulalip)

Monday, May 1, 2017 - 6:00 pm
Lecture Hall 4
Join Lois Landgrebe (Tulalip) for an evening of Salish star stories in the Northern Lushootseed language of Puget Sound. Lois will share stories, language, songs, and teachings of the stars and cosmos, earth and sky. Lois grew up all over, raised by a Coast Guard family. She became a storyteller at the age of 15 when she shared animal stories with her little sister at bedtime. Lois reunited with her heritage and become a tribal member at the age of twenty-two. In 1994, Lois was hired as a language assistant for The Tulalip Tribes, and is currently a language instructor for the Sauk Suiattle Tribe. A descendent of cultural teachers, storytellers, and healers, she has been teaching the culture and native language full-time for over 22 years. Mrs. Landgrebe carries a few of the Snohomish stories as a gift to share with various communities and listeners. Part of the Noetic Sciences Lecture Series The Evergreen State College, Spring & Summer 2017 In preparation for the total eclipse of August 21, 2017, we are hosting lectures and events to raise awareness of science, story, and sustainability, and to discuss questions central to our understanding of science, technology, the arts, culture, human thought, and the role of citizen science to empower diverse individuals and communities at this time in history. --Solar eclipse viewing glasses will be given away at events, courtesy of Russ and Cheryl Genet.
