The Olympia Climate Action Panel

Wednesday, May 3, 2017 - 6:00 pm to 8:45 pm
Lecture Hall 4
Join the WashPIRG Evergreen chapter for a night of discussion about Olympia’s Climate Action Plan with individuals active in making a difference. The Olympia Public Works Director, Rich Hoey, will begin by describing where Olympia’s emissions are coming from, what actions the city has taken and is planning on taking to reduce them, and will give an overview of the Climate Action Plan. The speakers; Cassandra Houghton (Energy Conservation and climate change building adaptation, Sustainability Ambassadors, TESC student), Kirk Haffner (Solar Expert, South Sound Solar), and Thad Curtz (electric vehicle specialist, retired Evergreen professor) will join Rich for a panel discussion united by the theme: “How can different types of clean energy, conservation, and vehicle electrification in the northwest provide guidance for Olympia climate action?” Panelists will describe what their technology is, give some examples of it in the northwest, and how it may contribute to reaching Olympia’s emission reduction goals. They will discuss how these efforts/technologies can interact, how can they work symbiotically to create a green power grid, and how can they be implemented in our local area most effectively. There will be time for questions and refreshments at the end. Moderated by Mason Rolph, TESC undergraduate
