Assessment in Literacy

To understand literacy assessment, participants will engage in readings, discussions, written analyses and workshops that will address formal and informal literacy assessment. Topics include diagnostic reading tests, informal reading inventories, cueing systems and miscue analysis, nonfiction text features and formats, qualitative and quantitative readability assessment, content area reading assessment, and scripted curricula assessments.

Reading Endorsement : For members of the class who are licensed teachers or who intend to become licensed teachers, The Evergreen State College offers this course as one of five courses that leads to a Washington State reading endorsement. The other courses are Instructional Methods in Literacy (offered in summer 2014), Foundations of Literacy and Research in Literacy (offered in summer 2015), and Children’s Literature or Adolescent Literature (offered every summer).
