This year (Quarters 2, 3, and 4), the Master in Teaching EL/ML Integrated Pathway (MiT: EL/ML) program willcontinue the work of learning to teach while centering the voices and experiences of English Language Learners and Multilingual Learners.

In the Fall (Quarter 2), the focus is on the integration of content and language. At the end of August, as teachers return to school, you will participate in a part-time field experience in a classroom that will provide a glimpse into how teachers begin the year with students. During this experience, you will keep a reflective journal and collect strategies and resources for teaching.

When classes officially begin at Evergreen, you will continue with your part-time field experience in addition to attending classes at Evergreen. Each strand will leverage theintegration and alignment of content and language for multilingual learners and will emphasize students’ meaning-making in the content areas, language learning, and interactions in cooperative and shared learning environments. Praxis strands (i.e. content area methods of instruction) will focus on the design and delivery of curriculum, instruction, and assessment with an emphasis on i) language development expectations/targets; ii) applying the sheltered instruction observational protocol (SIOP); and iii) utilizing cooperative learning strategies. Teacher Candidates will complete 120 hours of their EL/ML practicum.

Students who successfully complete the Fall quarter/Quarter 2 will earn credit in either Elementary or Secondary areas:

In the Winter (Quarter 3), you will transition to a content area field experience and will be in a classroom part-time. You will engage in lesson planning, analyzing student work, teach mini lessons, and connect with families and community in both your field experience and your program strands. In addition, you will begin the work of developing the skills to conduct your own Capstone Research Project on a question you have related to planning, teaching, and/or assessment of EL/ML students. All of your work this quarter will continue to center the practices that support all students and in particular, language learners, in your classrooms.

Students who successfully complete the Winter quarter/Quarter 3 will earn credit in either Elementary or Secondary areas:

By Spring (Quarter 4) quarter, you will transition to full days in your field experience, Monday through Friday. To build a network of support and a space to reflect, you will meet one afternoon/evening a week for a field seminar. During these sessions, you will have an opportunity to share your experiences in the classroom and to all complete your Capstone Research Project.

Students who successfully complete the Spring 2 quarter/Quarter 4 will earn credit in:

During March 2023 - June 2024, we will follow the policies and protocols of each partner school district related to COVID-19 in regards to placements. Please be aware that in response to the global pandemic, K-12 policies and practices can shift and we will need to remain flexible and responsive.

Students who are enrolled in the MIT program will register in Fall (Quarter 2) and will be automatically registered for Winter (Quarter 3) and Spring (Quarter 4).

Technology needs: Students will need access to Zoom and Canvas. Additionally, students will need a digital device and small tripod in order to film themselves teaching.
