This course provides an intermediate understanding of material-based printmaking processes. Students will transform their knowledge of introductory printmaking techniques applied to their choice of one of the following techniques: mono printing, etching, relief, or screen-printing. The objective is for the student to gain a consistent measure of outcomes that result from planning and creating strong studio practices. Ink mixing, image registration, layer trapping, etc., are all ways that students will learn to build structured methodologies for improved technical skills.
As a collaborative class, students will share their work, give and receive feedback, and engage in a mid-quarter and end-of-quarter critique to expand their critical observational skills and visual literacy. Students will lead with an independent agency of conceptual subject matter supported by research. Through lab notes and independent research, students gain valuable qualitative and quantitative skills from the design process that gives context to the work produced by reflective critical thinking.
