Student Voices Matter: Using the Student Voice to Improve Quality

CANCELLED

Fall 2017 quarter

Taught by

Everywhere, students are raising concerns about the quality of their educational experiences, insisting their voices matter. Students who enroll in this seminar will have the opportunity to use a common set of questions to evaluate the learning opportunities they are experiencing in Evergreen courses and programs, practicing qualitative research skills, writing and thinking skills, and presentation skills. Our overarching question: What does it look and feel like to move from a personal view of effective teaching and learning environments to a shared and “disciplined” perspective on effective teaching without losing your sense of what matters to you as a learner?

Student learning outcomes—by the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe your experiences as a learner in reference to evidence-based principles of effective teaching;
  • Analyze your experiences in terms of that literature;
  • Reflect on the implications of your findings for yourself as learner and for Evergreen;
  • Collaborate with others to report on these findings in a clear, compelling, and credible manner.
