Welcome from Les Purce
I welcome you to Evergreen and encourage you to take full advantage of all the resources and activities available here. Evergreen is located in a beautiful setting and our facilites and staff offer a wide range of high-quality services. Just as conference services supports the activities of one of the nation's leading colleges of arts and sciences, we strive to effectively support your workshop, seminar or conference needs.
I also hope you will have a chance to learn more about Evergreen's distinctive approach to education while you are here. Throughout most of the year, the people who meet in these conference rooms, classrooms and labs, and who live in these residence halls, are engaged in an innovative form of teaching pioneered by Evergreen more than 30 years ago.
This approach is called interdisciplinary education because it brings together subject matter traditionally taught in separate classes into one coordinated program taught by a team of faculty. Today, this concept is emulated throughout higher education and in K-12 classrooms across the country. It's an approach to education that works.
Today, more than ever, the fundamental skills Evergreen graduates take into the job market - communication, critical thinking, an ability to work with others, and the skills to get things done - are highly valued.
