SPECIAL NOTE
There is currently one full-time overtime-exempt position available on the Olympia Campus of The Evergreen State College. This position is an “at-will” appointment, exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules and the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime requirements.

COMPENSATION

  • Salary is $2,923 to $3,245 per month of full time work.
  • Experience and training may be considered in salary placement.

  • Exempt employees that work more than 0.5 FTE will become eligible for the tuition waiver program.


POSITION PURPOSE
As a member of the Student Activities Administration, the Senior Advisor assists students with interpreting college policies and procedures as well as state and federal regulations. The Senior Advisor, along with the other members of the Student Activities team, provides orientation and training to student organizations members. The Advisor is also responsible for providing fiscal and budgetary support to registered student organizations.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years professional-level student advising, counseling, or guidance experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Fiscal and budgetary experience with automated accounting systems such as Banner.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead responsibility for the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of student leadership education, training, and recognition programs.
  • Provide fiscal / budgetary support and advisement to registered student organizations including, purchase requisitions, p-card transactions, bi-weekly payroll recaps, and Student Leadership Activity Report stipend payments.
  • Supervise the College Activities Building (CAB) Information Desk Attendants and the student/hourly CAB Program Coordinator (student positions).
  • Advise the CAB Student Gallery.
  • Advise the Student Election Coordinators.
  • Serve as the college liaison to the local WASHPIRG chapter.
  • Serve as a mediator for student organizations. 
  • Monitor off campus fund raising efforts of registered student organizations at the Olympia campus.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong fiscal and business management skills.
  • Working knowledge of student development theory and practice.
  • Ability to implement student leadership development learning opportunities and programming.
  • Skill and ability to aide students in event planning, including budgeting, contracting, negotiation, and risk management.
  • Commitment to and appreciation for diversity and multi-cultural values and the ability to thrive and work effectively with people of different abilities, racial, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds in achieving organizational goals and mission.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff and faculty.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team oriented environment with other Student Activities staff.
  • Computer proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite and institutional data bases.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student advocacy with the ability to assist students in representing themselves and their interests effectively.
  • Ability to foster a climate that this welcoming and supportive of the mission and values of The Evergreen State College.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
