Reservation Based Community Determined Program (Nisqually)

Adjunct faculty position for fall, winter and spring quarters of the 2013-14 academic year. 

This a part time (35%) position.

The Evergreen State College seeks an adjunct faculty member to teach part-time in our Reservation Based Community Determined Program.  The position is located at the Nisqually Indian Reservation.

Essential Duties:

  • Prepare and teach two three-hour site classes per week under an established syllabus.
  • Maintain attendance and records of student work for up to 13 students.
  • Conduct evaluation conferences with students per Evergreen guidelines at week five and the end of each quarter.
  • Write all narrative evaluations on time at the end of each quarter.
  • Maintain a minimum presence in the community by attending occasional community events or other activities and by participating in site-specific recruiting efforts as appropriate and referring possible students.
  • Attend the summer team planning institute.
  • Attend 4 quarterly faculty planning retreats.
  • Attend and participate in the Fall Quarter RBCD Orientation activities.
  • Contribute to the revision and development of curriculum.
  • Work with/support student governance activities at the site.
  • Work under the supervision of the program director and assigned program Dean.
  • Provide academic advisement to students at the site.
  • Work with tribal education employees, career development offices, and tribal government when appropriate.
  • Maintain excellent communication with the Program Director and students throughout the quarter.
  • Follow all CBA (collective bargaining agreement) responsibilities of “faculty who award credit” (article 6.2) and any other requirements that apply to Adjunct Faculty.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree (MA, M.Ed, PhD, or other).
  • Five plus years or teaching or training experience with adult learners.
  • Successful experience working with or in culturally or ethnically diverse communities with weighted consideration for experience working with Indian Nations, communities, or nonprofit organizations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to challenge students to excel in their academic pursuits and to demand high quality work within a supportive and nurturing environment.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

This is an adjunct (35%) faculty position beginning fall quarter 2013. Salary for all positions based on experience and earned academic degrees. We do not offer relocation expenses for our adjunct faculty positions.
