Dr. Kimberly Lees - Director

Dr. Kimberly Lees provides overall leadership, administrative management, and school and community partnership allegiance to The Evergreen State College GEAR UP Program. Dr. Lees holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education/Secondary and a Master of Arts degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Arizona, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Northern Colorado. Her career history has focused strategically on federally funded grants that support first generation, disadvantaged and underrepresented populations, specifically the McNair Scholars Program, Student Support Services Program, and the Upward Bound Program. Before coming to Evergreen, Dr. Lees was actively involved at Colorado State University where she served on the Campus of Character Council, and the Campus-Wide Events Sub-Committee, providing initiatives in developing a campus code of conduct, a living-learning community, and opportunities for enhancing stewardship, civic engagement, service-learning and programs engaged in leadership and mentoring development. She is also an active member and participant of Habitat for Humanity Global Village. In her free time she enjoys jogging, spinning, weight training, swimming, and being outdoors enjoying the magnificent state of Washington. Dr. Lees can be reached at 360/867-5136.

Larry Crowley - Educational Specialist

Larry Crowley provides direct services to students and parents in his role as Educational Specialist. Larry graduated from Texas Tech University where he majored in sociology. He received his master's degree in education from South Dakota State University in 1981, where he concentrated in counseling. He is a school and nationally certified counselor. Larry brings over 24 years of experience to the GEAR UP team, particularly in the areas of student leadership, empowering and strengthening families, and motivational and coping skills training for teens. Larry lives with his wife and two daughters in Olympia, where he has resided since 1986. In his spare time he enjoys fishing, watching movies, and playing racquetball. Ada Daniels - Educational Specialist

Ada Daniels provides direct services to students and parents in her role as Educational Specialist. She grew up in a military family and married a military man, living for several years in Frankfurt, Germany. Ada started her college education at the University of Maryland with a focus in Business Administration and Management, and earned her bachelor's degree in liberal arts from The Evergreen State College. Ada has extensive experience in social service and educational settings. She has facilitated classes in resume writing, portfolio preparation, life skills, financial aid, scholarships, and career planning and assessment. She volunteers for a non-profit organization that assists parents and students in preparing for and entering into college, and serves as secretary for the Michael Shawn Hines Foundation, a non-profit organization that works with youth. Carletta Garraway - Educational Specialist

Carletta Garraway provides direct services to students and parents in her role as Educational Specialist. She is grew up in a military home and attended Washington State University where she received her Bachelor's in Art in Humanities - Public Relations and a minor in Music- Vocal Performance. She has a strong business and community background and has worked extensively with schools. She has over 25 years of volunteer services, working with students, parents, and the community in Olympia, Washington and British Columbia, Canada. She is the International Director for The Thurston Group of Washington State, a non-profit organization that assists students and parents in college preparation, admissions and scholarship search. She is a proud mother of four children, an international motivational speaker and performer. In her spare time she enjoys singing, journaling, traveling, and spending time with her family. Carletta works primarily at Clover Park High School.

Rachel Martinez - Program Coordinator

Rachel Martinez joined the GEAR UP team in July, 2007. She provides the primary administrative and budget support for the GEAR UP program. Rachel graduated from Saint Martin 's University in May, 2006, where she majored in Business Administration. During her work at the University, Rachel was actively involved in student services serving as President of the Non-Traditional Students Club, Senator of Non-Traditional Students for the Associated Students of Saint Martin's University, served on the ASSMU Finance Committee, and was selected to represent the student body on the 2006 University Presidential Selection Committee. She is currently serving her first term on the Saint Martin 's Alumni Association Board of Directors. Rachel has extensive experience in business administration and brings to GEAR UP a passion for supporting and encouraging all students in their pursuit of higher education. In her spare time, Rachel loves to spend time with her son, friends and family. She enjoys movies and family dinners, dancing and singing, and on those occasional inspirational moments, taking a stroll around Capital Lake . Rachel can be reached at (360) 867-5801.
