“There is no greater education than one that is self-driven.”
—Neil deGrasse Tyson

Watch the livestream the day of the event!
Every graduation has a theme and related t-shirt and student speakers. Learn more about this year’s theme.
Get the Shirt
Buy your graduation t-shirts online or in the Greener Bookstore on campus. Greener Bookstore donates $5.00 for each shirt sold to the 2016 Class Gift, which will be donated to Gateways for Incarcerated Youth.
Please see instructions for graduates for important information about the ceremony. We won’t have a rehearsal and the procession route is different this year than past years, due to construction.
Graduate students will attend a separate hooding program in addition to regular commencement.
If you’re getting ceremony information and do not plan to graduate this year, let us know through the survey link on my.evergreen.edu and we will take you off the mailing list.
About the Ceremony
Evergreen’s commencement is held outdoors on Red Square at the center of campus, rain or shine.
The ceremony begins at 1 pm and lasts approximately three hours. Learn about this year’s guest speakers.
A reception will follow in the Daniel J. Evans Library Lobby. With 1,000 or more graduates to recognize, we ask that the audience remain seated until the recessional has concluded. The last person recognized deserves the same support, respect, and celebration as the first. Your presence is part of the graduation experience for all. Graduates, families, and friends will appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Tickets are not required. Early arrival is recommended for best seating and parking.
Food will be available for purchase on Red Square and in the adjacent College Activities Building.
Can’t attend in person? The commencement ceremony will be streamed live. This page will have the details on the day of the event.
Parking & Transportation
All parking is free on graduation day. However, more than 7000 people are expected to attend the ceremony and parking will be at maximum capacity.
Download a campus map (PDF) marked with locations for graduation day parking. Marked shuttle vans will run from 11 am to 1:30 pm and from 3 pm to 5 pm between the farthest parking areas (Parking Lot F, meadow parking off Driftwood Road) and the main campus.
Intercity Transit buses also run to the college every 15 minutes between downtown Olympia and the college, and every half hour between Capitol Mall and the college.
If you are a person with a disability in need of an accommodation during Commencement, please view the accommodations we have available for your benefit.
