Graduation 2013 Faculty Speaker
Lin Nelson is the 2013 Faculty Speaker
Lin Nelson came to Evergreen as a Member of the Faculty in 1992, after having taught at Ithaca College and Cornell University in the 1980s. Lin completed her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at Elmira College, and both her Master of Arts and Ph.D. in Sociology at Pennsylvania State University.
Lin has maintained a strong connection with organizations and communities dedicated to protecting environmental, occupational and women’s health. She supports students in linking their academic work to public interest research, community organizations and social movements.
Recently, Lin collaborated with her daughter in writing a chapter on occupational and environmental health for the 40th anniversary edition of the book Our Bodies, Ourselves. With colleague Anne Fischel, she is documenting the experiences of workers and communities with one major corporation (the American Smelting and Refining Company), with a focus on struggles for workers’ health rights and environmental justice.
