1.3 The Residential Campus

Apts

Approximately 900 students live on campus at Evergreen during the academic year.  Residential and Dining Services oversees 18 traditional residence hall and apartment buildings, and a complex of modular housing units. We house first year and upper-division students in these areas.

Residential Buildings

Residential housing at Evergreen was built in three distinct stages.  The buildings that were constructed in each stage are collectively referred to by their phase.

  • Phase I:  Residence Halls (A, B, C, D)
  • Phase II:  Apartments (E - U)
  • Phase III: Modulars (Mods)

Street Name:  Only two streets are used for residence hall addresses.  Phase I and II reside on Indian Pipe Loop NW and the Mods are on Wild Current Loop.

Street Number:  Each building in Phases I and II has been assigned a unique street number.  The Mods share one street number.

Letter:  All buildings have a letter assigned to them.  These are what they are usually referenced as.

Specialized Living Options

The following living options are available for any Residence Hall resident:

  • First Year Residence Halls (A-D):  First year halls provide a dynamic living-learning environment with lower staff-to-resident ratios and enhanced resources to support students in their transition to college life at Evergreen. The first year halls are designed to meet the needs of new freshmen and transfer students, who will be under 21 for the full academic year. Students living here typically have 40 or fewer credits earned and are required to purchase a meal plan with campus dining.
  • Clean Air (B): for students who do not smoke any substances, and do not spend time around smoke.
  • Mixed-gender Suites: Some of the suites in A-D buildings are designated as mixed-gender for students of differing genders to live close together, while still maintaining the privacy of their own locking bedrooms.
  • Quiet (D): for students who prefer a quieter, academic environment, these rooms require observation of quiet hours at all times.

The following living options are available for any Apartment and Mod resident:

  • Clean Air (M-305): for students who do not smoke any substances, do not spend time around smoke, and do not have service or support animals.
  • Quiet (P & Q): for students who prefer a quieter, academic environment, these rooms require observation of quiet hours at all times.
  • Substance Free (S): for students who want to live an alcohol-free and drug-free lifestyle. Evergreen students are expected to obey the law and follow the specified school policies regarding drugs and alcohol.
  • Transfer Student House (T): for students who have transferred from another college and are new to Evergreen.
  • Over 30 House (M-302): for students who are over 30 years old.

Themed Housing

The following themes are offered on a separate application basis for Residence Hall residents, allowing students with shared priorities to live together:

  • Substance Free Floor (B-5): While all of the freshmen residence halls are substance free based on students' age, this floor is dedicated to providing an environment for students who are committed to leading lives without the use of alcohol or other drugs.
  • TOP Floor (A-10): A small group of first-year Evergreen students participates in outdoor adventures and leadership opportunities with The Outdoor Program (TOP). TOP-themed housing is only available by application.
  • Freshmen are also welcome to apply for the Rainbow Fort community located in the apartments.

The following themes are offered on a separate application basis for Apartment and Mod residents, allowing students with shared priorities to live together:

  • Rainbow Fort (I): This safe-space gender-neutral housing is for students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, queer, questioning, transgender, gender non-conforming, gender queer, asexual, and/or intersex, as well as committed allies. Rainbow Fort is designed to promote personal growth and community building within a safe and supportive environment. Designations such as biological sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression are not used in making housing assignments in this specialized community.
  • Sustainability (M-303): For students committed to a more environmentally-conscious lifestyle, issues such as social justice and sustainable agriculture, and related activism. To be considered for the Sustainability Community, students must submit an application expressing their interest in sustainability-related issues.
  • TOP Apartment (T-3): A group of Evergreen students who participate in outdoor adventures and leadership opportunities with The Outdoor Program (TOP). TOP-themed housing is only available by application.
