1.5 Dining Services
The Evergreen State College believes high quality campus dining offers the community opportunities to spend quality time together eating healthy and sustainable food. Our dining facilities provide a great setting outside the classroom for interaction with faculty, students, and staff; and a comfortable place for off-campus students and visitors. Dining Services locations are operated in partnership with Aramark. Evergreen's Residential and Dining Services oversees the contract, gathers feedback from the community, and makes recommendations for improvement.
Food Services Mission Statement
The goal of The Evergreen State College food services is to provide quality food presented in an attractive manner to the diverse range of individuals and groups that utilize the campus. We envision the partnership between the food service provider and our department to be integral to our mission.
As a partnership we strive to:
- Provide a healthy, fresh and attractive food service that is responsive to the changing desires of students, staff, faculty, and guests.
- Engender community development and encourage campus involvement through communication, creative programming, and attractive facilities.
- Operate in a fiscally viable manner while providing affordably priced food.
- Educate the community in regards to nutrition, sustainability, and being a socially responsible consumer.
- Create relationships between food services and academic programs.
- Give students the opportunity to learn about the connection between local farms and the campus.
- Maintain a flexible catering program that meets the needs of Conference Services and tailors services to individual groups.
- Provide products and services convenient to the campus community
Campus Dining
There are currently five on-campus dining options and locations for students:
- The Greenery is located in the College Activities Building (CAB) on the 1st floor.
- The Market, also located in the CAB, is on the 2nd floor.
- The Sem II Cafe is located in the Seminar II Building. It features a full barista menu and grab-and-go options. Sem II is a popular meeting and studying space.
- The Corner Store is a convenience store located within housing in the HCC. Students can buy snack foods, grab-and-go meals and food items to prepare in their rooms
- The Flaming Eggplant is not operated by Aramark but is loosely a part of Residential & Dining Services. The Flaming Eggplant is a student-run food service operation located in the CAB. The Flaming Eggplant focuses on locally produced food.
Collaborating with Dining Services
As a Resident Assistant and RAD employee, it is important to support Dining Services. We expect you to use Dining Services whenever possible for programs involving food. During Fall Training we will train you on how to order food using the student menu for community programs.
It is also an expectation that you be fair and professional in responding to resident feedback on our food options and Dining Services. If you hear comments that may be useful for Dining Services to improve their service, please let your Resident Director know. Dining Services is receptive to feedback and suggestions.
